History of the TLR camera - Decay of the boom, and other TLR cameras

Until now, we featured on the primitive and 6x6cm format TLR cameras.
On this page, let's take a look at other format TLRs.
Franke and Heidecke had been develped 4x4cm format TLR camera other than 6x6cm format's, and as soon as they released RolleiFlex 4x4 with light value system on the market in 1957, the other manufacturers, mainly Japanese manufacturers, followed it, and Ricoh, Minolta, Hobby and so force introduced their 4x4 TLRs soon after.
But the trend of the camera market then began to turn to the 35mm SLR camera, and 4x4 TLR cameras were not so sold as expected. Again, the SLR camera withdrew people's eyes from the TLR cameras. Advancing stopped and the TLR camera had decayed gradually. Over one hundred of TLR camera manufacturers had been gone, either stopped manufacturing it or crushed, and now no domestic camera manufacturers produce TLRs unfortunately.

Looks just like RolleiFlex 4x4!

YashicaFlex 4x4

YachicaFlex 4x4 came on the market in 1958 which was one year after RolleiFlex 4x4 was introduced. But, as mentioned, the TLR camera boom was going down due to a rapid spread of SLR cameras on the market then.
By the way, this camera looked just like RolleiFlex 4x4, and so, there had been a crib problem between Franke and Heidecke and Yashica for a year since its release.
In Japan, this camera was popular especially for women because of its compact size, cute appearance (cribbed from RolleiFlex 4x4, though...) and color variations (seven colors of them provided).

Big! It is hard to categorize this into the TLR camera, especially when you see the 4x4cm format TLR camera.
This was manufactured by Cambo, Netherland. Cambo is a large-size camera manufacturer and has released many.
